6 Production Steps for Baby Monster Puppet / Prop (Zandrias Style)

In addition to the popular dinosaur puppets, we can also manufacture the increasingly popular animatronic monster puppets! The production process is the same as that of the dinosaur puppet, consisting of five relatively simple steps. Please pay attention to the five steps described here, which can help you make all kinds of monster hand puppets.

This customized monster prop was made based on the baby monster Zandrias porotype from Ultraman, can fully demonstrate our customization capability.

QUICK FACTS:

#1. The baby monster’s head mechanical steel frame created
#2. Install flashing LED lights at the eyes of the mechanical head
#3. After wrapping the sponge, shape it
#4. Silicone skin grafting works
#5. Skin pigmentation
#6. Final test

1. The baby monster’s head mechanical steel frame created

First, our skilled mechanics custom-designed the baby monster’s mechanical head. Although the mechanical head is small, its size tests the craftsmanship of our workers. The opening and closing of the mouth and the blinking of the eyes are the most classic mechanical movements, requiring patient polishing and design.

Requirements for head machinery: Operator can freely control the opening and closing of the mouth through the fingers.

2. Install flashing LED lights at the eyes of the mechanical head

This step requires our electrician to solder LED lights to the monster’s eyes and leave a sufficiently long control cable leading to its tail. A button controller should then be installed at the end of the cable.

Requirements: The operator can make the baby monster’s eyes flash red simply by pressing a button.

3. After wrapping the sponge, shape it

Once the monster’s mechanical head is customized, our skilled workers will wrap the head with high-density sponge, and our skilled sculptors will hand-carve the baby monster’s head and body.

This is the most time-consuming production step, and it requires the patience and superb skills of our carving masters. If the skill level is not up to par, it is easy to end up with a shape that is neither fish nor fowl.

Requirements: The body and head should be sculpted in a 1:1 scale based on the Ultraman character Zandrias.

4. Silicone skin grafting works

After carving the sponge into a complete baby monster shape, our plastering workers will apply silicone all over its body, then mix stockings and gasoline to stick onto the surface, making its skin highly durable and elastic.

After drying, the baby monster’s skin becomes full of elasticity, just like a soft silicone toy.

Requirements: The entire monster’s skin must be coated with at least three layers of silicone in order to make its skin durable.

5. Skin pigmentation

The final production step is our coloring master using silicone, oil paint, and gasoline mixed together to dye the monster’s skin. Generally, a spray gun and air compressor are used efficiently to color it (spray-paint the skin’s color).

Requirements: Restore it completely according to the original object’s skin color.

6. Final test

Our workers test the hand puppets for at least 30-45 minutes. Try whether its eyes blink, its mouth opens and closes, its eyes flash, and other functions work properly. If there are no problems, the puppets can be delivered to the buyer.

Requirements: Only zero defects can be considered as finished products, and any problem must be addressed immediately once discovered.

Conclusion

The above are the six steps to make an animatronic baby monster puppet / prop! These six steps reflect the rigor of our workers in producing products and ensure that every monster prop we make is delivered perfectly to our customers.
